11–12 October: goals, belonging and Papis crowned in Gijón

Men’s First Team draw, Women’s First Team rout, academy growth, Hoquei+ with a medal and Papis champions in Gijón. Weekend recap at Catalònia HC.

Equip del Catalònia Hoquei Club

A full weekend for the club. The first teams delivered with composure: the Men’s First Team earned a valuable draw at Can Salas (3–3) against a very experienced side, and the Women’s First Team produced a statement performance at Pau Negre (8–0 vs Atlètic 1952) that confirms the team’s form and its intent to look upwards again. In the senior categories, CHC Blau (Second Men) competed but fell to BHC 1977, and CHC Taronja (Second Men) slipped by the narrowest margin away to Sant Andreu. Both Second Women’s teams had a rest weekend and used Friday for a very physical session to fuel up for what’s next.

Academy on the rise. The U18 Girls took a commanding win (11–1 vs ATHC C) and the U16 Girls closed out an open game with poise (7–4 vs ATHC C). U12 Girls, double matchday and double smile: 2–0 vs Diagonal HC Rojo and a 5–6 character win in Sant Cugat. The U16 Boys faced a demanding away trip to RC Polo B. The U12 girls are having a great indoor campaign, consolidating fundamentals and match rhythm that shows every weekend.

Hoquei+. The team took part in the 15th Torneig Catalònia hosted by Junior de Sant Cugat and came home with a medal. A weekend of hockey and smiles, with learnings that add up. Proud of the group and of coaches Gina Contel and Cristina Contel for the project and the care with which they keep growing it.

Papis, champions in Gijón. Three days we won’t forget.

Debut vs Grupo Covadonga (1–2): a serious performance, territorial control and penalties decisive in both circles. Manu’s tactics board set the course and the winning goal arrived from a quick connection: control inside the circle and the final finish with the defence out of shape. Starting like this builds a team.

Sardinero (0–0) and Lloberu (0–1): a two-hour lunch between games and Manu, anticipating temptations, switched to a simple-passing 4–4–2. The first was very tight; in the second, experience prevailed. Matt sprinted the length of the pitch on a counter and, as the keeper hesitated, lifted the ball with a deft lob “that trickled in” (Pancho dixit). In the final we met the tournament’s most organised side again.

The final: lines tight like a table football, maximum focus and a game decided in the circles. Eze dead-stopped the PC, Joaco settled the ball and smashed it for 1–0; they levelled from a PC and everything went to shootouts. Muus opened the scoring, José grew big in goal, saved and shut the door on the last attempt. Champions. Craft, friendship and orange pride.
